The Hike
The Plain of Six Glaciers Teahouse is nestled among the towering peaks of the Rocky Mountains. The trail head begins at the bustling Chateau Lake Louise. Follow the wide, well-worn path for 2km around the turquoise water to the back of the lake where the trail begins its upward trajectory. Over the course of the next 3.6km the trail will gain approximately 360m of elevation.
Along the way hikers will be exposed to views of the dramatic glacial valley and gain a lesser-known perspective of the world-famous Lake Louise. The trail winds through partially forested terrain, meadows populated with wildflowers in the summer months, and rocky switchbacks. Hikers will know they are close once they are greeted on the trail with the scent of fresh bread. Shortly after, the trees will open up into a large alpine meadow with the most peaceful sounding stream and a majestic panoramic view of the popular peaks of Lake Louise.
Be sure to keep your eyes out for goats, sheep, pikas, marmots, and bears and practice appropriate animal safety should you be lucky enough to see one of these elusive critters. Make sure to bring lots of water and weather appropriate clothing as the trail is quite exposed at certain points.
Hike safe and we look forward to welcoming you to the Plain of Six Glaciers!
The teahouse
Rain or shine, the Teahouse offers a menu of light lunches, desserts, and beverages. Everything is handmade on site with ingredients flown up by helicopter twice a year or brought up daily in the backpacks of our remarkable staff.
Walk up the path from the meadow towards the Teahouse and let our staff help you find a seat. It is time for a well deserved break! Our staff will bring you a menu and take your order. We recommend you try the locals favorite chocolate cake and one of our nearly twenty varieties of tea!
Owing to the remote nature of the Teahouse, card processing is not always available. We strongly encourage guests to bring Canadian cash as a backup method of payment!
